The minority is playing tribal politics with the Keta tidal waves- Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim says

Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, a leading member of the Convention People’s Party has said the opposition National Democratic Congress is playing tribal politics with their demand for inclusion of the Keta Sea Defense in the 2022 budget. Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim who was speaking on today’s episode of the Good Morning Africa Show on Pan Africa TV ( December 7)pointed out that, the issue of tidal waves in Keta started way back from the colonial era, and appropriations have been made to it by successive governments but nothing significant had been done about it until former president John Agykum Kuffour came to power in 2000.

She further stressed that several communities in the country go through difficult times, but never has the minority made a case for them to be by all means included in the budget. Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim indicated that the people of the North whose farms get flooded, animals destroyed and the people rendered homeless, anytime the Bagari Dam is spilled, only get blanket and buckets from the National Disaster Management Authority as relief items. 

“NDC, as a party, the way they are behaving about this Keta Sea Defense is like trying to play tribal politics, that’s how I will see it. Because if you single out one community or a group of people who are suffering as if people are not suffering in this country, that’s where I have a problem. What about us who are suffering when the Bagari Dam is released? What arrangements have been made apart from our NADMO going to give our people blanket and buckets?” She asked.

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has discovered that the government has earmarked 10 million Ghana cedis to undertake a feasibility study into phase 2 of the Keta Sea Defense. Some members of the Volta Caucus in Parliament like Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Dzifa Gomashie have commended the Finance Minister for this move.
