According to GES, all primary four learners are going to be assessed in two subjects namely Literacy and Numeracy through the maiden National Standardized Test (NST) dated Friday, 17th December 2021.
Following this new development, the vacation period has reportedly been extended to one more week to compensate teachers, according to management. This means that, all public schools will now vacate on 17th December 2021 instead of 10th December 2021.
Conversely, the new reopening date has now become 17th January 2022 instead of 10th January 2022 for all public basic schools including junior high schools in the country if that is what GES means by compensating teachers.
On the GES Facebook post, it stated :
“National Standardized Test for P4 will be written on the 17th of December 2021. As a result, all Basic schools will vacate on the 17th of December 2021. GES will make up for the lost vacation period in the next academic calendar.”
The test will be conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the results of students will be used by the Ministry of Education to know the challenges facing learners and the appropriate interventions to be given to them afterwards.
Also, parents and guardians will be given a copy of their ward’s results to know how their children’s weaknesses and strengths. The test will be conducted in subjects Literacy and Numeracy.
Teachers have also reacted to the sudden change in vacation date especially those in junior high schools because they have stayed school for more than 35 weeks without vacation. According to what most of them are saying, they are tired and want to have a break.
