Ghana seems to be hanging as there is no clear hope to a working budget and financial policy for the year 2022. This is because the budget which was presented to parliament for voting was rejected by the minority at the end of the debate. The majority group which staged a walk out later approved it when the Speaker of parliament travelled.
But the minority caucus has since decided it will not accept that approval citing the same concerns already raised by the majority. This has created so much tension in the country.
Finally the National Peace Council saw the need to intervene to make peace with the two political parties to ensure there is a working budget for the nation.
On Saturday, the council issued a statement to update Ghanaians on the resolution process.
According to president of the council Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Peace Council engaged leadership of both majority and minority in separate fruitful discussions. He said, both leaders of the house expressed their willingness to resolve the impasse so governance can smoothly run.
He said under the auspices of the council, the house had formed a 20 member committee comprising 10 senior members from each side and they have been tasked to come out with concrete pathways for resolution.
But some Ghanaians are not happy with the Christian Council for intervening in this matter. To these people, there is nothing like peace council in Ghana.
In reaction to the story, a netizen observed that, for close to one year, eight persons were shot and killed by security personnel but the council hasn’t spoken. CitizenOne added that the council kept quiet when the millitary invaded parliament and when an MP snatched ballot papers. He concluded by suggesting that the Peace Council was being used by the President for appeacement.
