Ghanaian Afro-Highlife musician, Eugene Kwame Marfo, popularly known as Kuami Eugene has said that an artist can be recognized globally even if he does not feature an international artist.

Speaking in an interview on YFM 107.9, he told the host Kojo Manuel during the Dryve of your life Show that collaborating with an international artist does not guarantee your recognition in the international market.

He cited Nigerian artist CKay as an example. He said that CKay had one of the biggest songs in the world but did not feature any international act but himself and Joe Boy who is also Nigerian.

“Hitting the international market is not about featuring international artists on your song. Perhaps you have seen Wizkid and Justin Bieber that’s why the perception is so. But, CKay has been able to prove that you don’t need an international artiste.”

‘Love Nwantiti’ featured me and Joe Boy, we didn’t have any international artiste, just three local boys in Africa and now the song is global and ranking on Billboard charts.”

“I think what is important is the connection with the international market and the forces, I keep saying the forces because the last time Ghana went up there was because we had a lot of forces behind it. Anytime you see something from Ghana up there, there is a collective effort that pushes it,” he said.
