“Funerals Will Be Used To Boost Tourism In Ghana”-Mark Okraku Mantey Reveals

The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey has revealed the ministry’s intentions to use funerals to revitalize tourism in Ghana.

Mr. Okraku-Mantey described it as “funeral tourism,” and said the Tourism, Arts & Culture Ministry intends to pay particular attention to exploiting funerals to enhance tourism.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Mark stated that his boss, the Minister for Tourism, Arts & Culture Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has come up with the idea of using funerals to sell Ghana’s rich culture to the world.

According to him, there are so many cultural displays in almost every funeral held in the country, thus the ministry wishes to take advantage of the opportunity to boost tourism in Ghana. He said that Christians mostly keep corpses for a longer period before burial unlike Muslims, thus the rites performed during the funeral could be used to attract foreign tourists to the country.
