A group known as Youth for Peace and Security Africa [YPSA] is calling on the police to as a matter of urgency release embattled Ghanaian artiste Shatta Wale from custody and apologize to him.

This demand comes right after an Accra Circuit Court had remanded Shatta Wale together with three other persons into police custody for one week.

According to the group, Shatta Wale did no wrong by creating a hoax about an attack on his life to put into proper perspective the doom prophecy a self-acclaimed prophet made about his life a month ago.

The musician together with his accomplice created and cicruclated the news on Monday, October 18 that he had sustained gunshot wounds and rushed to the hospital. The police later confirmed the news as false and as a result arrested Shatta Wale and his accomplices; Nana Dope and Gangee.

But, the YPSA in statement signed by one conflict mediator called Abraham Korbla Klutsey, has said Shatta Wale did no wrong by projecting the ills of the Ghanaian society which had manifested itself in the unrelistic prophecies proferred by self-ordained prophets. The group maintained that Shatta Wale be freed since his action did not cause public fear and panic as put forth by the police.

Excerpt of the statement reads:

The alleged act by Shatta Wale, faking a gun attack on himself on 18th October 2021 is a soft-protest against the failure of of the police to guarantee his right to peace, safety and security as a citizen of Ghana.

Shatta Wale has the right to protest the failure of the police administration his right to peace, safety and security

Shatta Wale is a hero. He has saved many from mental and emotional trauma, and the general public from fear and panic, from 2022 and beyond. Through an act, self-protect, rather than demonstrating on the street

Meanwhile, the hastag [#FreeShattaWale] has been trending on Twitter with many arguing in favour of Shatta Wale and explaining their reason why they feel and believe the musician shouldn’t be jailed or justice delivered with a bit of mercy.
