The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has rescheduled two papers in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

This follows fears that the papers- Physics and Business Management- were leaked.

The head of the council’s Test Administration Division, George Ohene-Mantey, said at a press conference that “The cheating social media groups were in full swing prior to the conduct of the mathematics and the English language papers on 9th and 13th September.”

“After the administration of the test, careful scrutiny of the several versions [of suspected leaks] received indicated that extracts of parts of the questions in mathematics elective two and section A of English Language two were circulated on social media platforms.”

Mr Ohene-Mantey further said, “the circulation was not extensive,” he added that the council would continue to be vigilant.

“Additionally, the council will deploy various international assessment procedures and interventions within its building to guarantee the credibility of results,” he said.

Commenting on this development, the Executive Director of the Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare, said in a Facebook post that “Today’s Physics & Business Mgt Rescheduled Indefinitely by WAEC? Great! The leak is just too much. Won’t be surprised if others are cancelled. WAEC must be decisive on these leaks. We must restore credibility in WASSCE. We are all responsible.”
