Sept. 10 (UPI) — Hurricane Larry moved northeast away from Newfoundland, Canada, on Saturday, forecasters said.

In its 5 a.m. EDT update, the National Hurricane Center said the eye of Larry was located about 285 miles north-northeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland, and 1.420 miles west-southwest of Reykjavik, Iceland. It had maximum sustained winds of 75 and was moving north-northeast at 48 mph.

Larry, presently a Category 1 hurricane, is forecast to weaken to a tropical storm by Saturday afternoon.

“Large swells generated by Larry will continue to affect the Bahamas, Bermuda, the east coast of the United States and Atlantic Canada through tonight,” the NHC said in its update. “These swells will cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, and beachgoers and other interests along these coasts are urged to follow the guidance of lifeguards and local officials.”
