A lecturer and International Relations expert, Dr. Julius Kwaku Kattah says, Guinea President Alpha Conde must be blamed for the coup in his country.

Although he has condemned the coup, the lecturer asserted that the President manipulated the constitution so he could stay in office for a third term.

Special forces soldiers in Guinea on Sunday ousted Guinea’s long-serving president.

They told the citizens of Guinea that they had dissolved its government and constitution and closed its land and air borders.

The elite army unit’s head, Mamady Doumbouya, said “poverty and endemic corruption” had driven his forces to remove President Alpha Conde from office.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Dr. Kattah said before the coup clear signs and indicators were pointing to a coup.

The political governance in Guinea he suggested, was poor, and all the six indicators failed i.e. effective implementation of the rule of law, effectiveness to issues of the nation, dealing with corruption, accountability, political stability.

He said before the coup, Alpha Conde had manipulated the constitution and went for a third term.

“It is not a good governance practice. Alpha Conde must be blamed for the coup. But the coup is undemocratic,” he added.
