Mana to receive Icon Award at Billboard Latin Music Awards

Sept. 2 (UPI) — Maná will be honored at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards this month.

Billboard said Thursday that the Mexican rock band will receive the Icon Award at the awards ceremony Sept. 23.

Maná released its debut album, Falta Amor, in 1990, and presently consists of Fher Olvera, Alex González, Sergio Vallín and Juan Calleros.

The band is being recognized for “having carved out a career that has not only remained relevant through time but has also made them the most distinguished band in their genre, celebrated globally for achieving both musical and commercial success.”

Maná will perform a remake of its song “El Reloj Cucú” featuring 12-year-old vocalist Mabel at the awards show.

Maná has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. The band has won 24 Billboard Latin Music Awards and is nominated for Latin Pop Artist of the Year, Duo or Group at this year’s ceremony.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards will air Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. EDT on Telemundo. The show will also feature performances by Camila Cabello, Christian Nodal, Juanes, Natti Natasha and other artists.
