Sunyani, July 16, GNA –Some residents in the Sunyani Municipality have commended the government’s efforts to strengthen security in the city to ensure the safety of the citizenry.

They made the commendation in an interview by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about an on-going close circuit security cameras installation project at vantage points in the Municipality.

They said the security cameras were needed to enhance security for the effective protection of lives and properties.
Mr Kenneth Danso, a taxi driver, said, the project was highly commendable because it would help to trace criminals.
“If the law works fairly, reckless driving would reduce”, Mr. Danso added and therefore pleaded with the law enforcement agencies to apply the law without fear or favour.”
Mr Matthew Asigre, a station master at the Sunyani main taxi station, said with a proper data system of citizens’ images and residential addresses, criminals could easily be traced.
Mr. Andy Darkwa, a mobile money agent, was optimistic the cameras would help to ease fears of attacks and increase their hope of security because the cameras would scare and reduce criminal operations.
Ms Jocelyn Baffour-Awuah, a businesswoman, praised the Akufo-Addo’s government and the Sunyani Municipal Assembly for such “a worthy public interest project” to augment the efforts of the Ghana Police Service to improve the security of the citizenry.

The cameras though would help provide a reliable security system, the project must not be limited to the city and urban centres alone, there should be the same installations in the hinterlands too, Mr. Stephen Osei Tutu, a second-hand shoe dealer suggested.
