Some makeshift wooden structures at Sepase and Atwima Agogo in the Ashanti Region, serving as bases for some dealers in narcotics, commonly called ‘wee’ or ‘ganja’, have been set ablaze.

Police personnel from the Abuakwa Division in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality that set fire into the two bases to destroy the narcotics also managed to apprehend eight suspected narcotic dealers.

The suspects who were nabbed during a police swoop included Yusif Moro, 21; God bless Kofi Annan, 28; and Patrick Osei, 19.

The remaining suspects were also identified as Thomas Yeboah, 24; Osei Tutu Afriyie, 29; Nana Boakye, 25; Kofi Owusu, 27; and Isaac Adu, 48.

A police report spotted by DAILY GUIDE said some dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs, popularly known as ‘ganja’, were found at both bases.

It said the suspects would be thoroughly screened and those found culpable during the swoops would be arraigned.

The report said on January 5, 2021 police from the Abuakwa Division conducted different swoops at some bases in Atwima Agogo and Sepase to arrest criminals.

The exercise started around 3:30pm and lasted for about two hours, leading to the arrest of eight suspected criminals that were hiding in makeshift wooden structures.

“The makeshift wooden structures at the respective bases of the suspects, where large quantities of the narcotics were found, were demolished and set ablaze,” the report said.

The police described the operation as “very successful” and “necessary,” therefore they were planning to replicate such operations in other ghettos within the municipality.

“More of such swoops will be replicated in other towns in the district to help keep criminals in check,” the police report assured and said the eight suspects were all in custody.
