Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that some workers of the Metro Mass Transit Limited in the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region are worried over their Covid-19 status, following the death of their colleague.

They said their colleague died on January 18, as a result of Covid-19 infection, and since then, not every worker, including those at the same terminal with the deceased, had gone to be tested.

This means some workers may have contracted Covid-19 from her unknowingly and still go about their duties.

The Upper East Regional Manager of Metro Mass Transit Limited, Malik Ibrahim, in an interview has confirmed that the company lost a female staff due to Covid-19 infection.

According to him, the staff have been educated on the need to protect themselves from contracting Covid-19 and has also advised them to avail themselves for testing, especially staff that were in close contact with the deceased staff.

“I am told that she came to work on Sunday, January 17. She went through her duties and I am told she did not show any sign of sickness. She works at the terminal and responsible for scheduling the buses, and I am told she did all that without complaints of weakness but the following day, Monday, she was reported dead and we should be scared and worried,” Mr. Ibrahim said.

Some regular patrons of Metro Mass who spoke to DAILY GUIDE over the death of the staff expressed shock, saying it never occurred to them that she had contracted Covid-19 because she looked active and did not show signs of weakness.

One Illiasu said even though he had always known that Covid-19 was real, he never knew “it was so close,” considering how frequent he visited the terminal and the other lorry parks in the municipality.

Another patron said he had on a number of times heard the conductors urging people to wear their face masks while onboard the buses, but people did not comply, especially when the bus took off from the station.
