Mogadishu — Forces loyal to Somali government backed by African Union troops and Al shabaab on Tuesday night battled in northern parts of the seaside Mogadishu.
At least three people were confirmed dead and dozens more injured in that fighting which lasted for hours.
The battle broke out after Al shabaab fighters launched hit and run attack on government and AMISOM military bases in Bondhere district.
Heavy crackling machine gunfire and artillery barrages could be heard from war zones in the capital.
Omar Ali Adow, one of Somali military officers told Shabelle that they have come under attack, but said they have repulsed.
Al shabaab has not released any comments about the fighting and casualties.
