Hamis Abdallah, the national cricket team captain, has attributed his side’s failure to qualify for the Division I to bad luck.The young cricketer, who plies his trade at Watford Town Club of the UK, skippered the national side that finished fourth in the ICC-Africa World League in South Africa last week. “We put up some sublime displays in Benoni, but luck was not on our side. The matches we lost to Botswana and Nigeria on the final day cost us dearly,” he said.
The Tanzanian team was among those primed to qualify for the Division I event planned for Nairobi in July. Nigeria and Ghana wrapped up their places in the forthcoming event. “We won over 60 per cent of our games in South Africa, but we failed to qualify, it’s too hard to take, but there is no way out, we’ve to reorganise,” the captain said.
Tanzania won five matches and lost three, which is a fair result against top African teams. The toughest side was Nigeria, who finished at the top of the table having defeated hard-fighting Tanzania by six runs. Nigeria batted first and scored 150 runs for 5 in 20 overs. Tanzania chased the total till the last over as they scored 146 for 3 in 20 overs.
Nigeria will participate at the ICC-Africa APL T20 Division 1 coming up mid-July in Entebe, Uganda and ICC WCL Division 6 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September.
