Mwanza — Many Mwanza road construction and rehabilitation projects have been halted, while others proceed at a snail pace due to the failure by the government to remit funds on time. The situation have put road contractors at risk of having their equipment seized by banks for failure to repay loans which they accessed to fund the projects.
Speaking during a the region’s road committee meeting here yesterday, the Tanzania Roads Agency Mwanza manager Leonard Kadashi, said currently roads in the region are in pathetic state.
He added that many contractors have already received notifications from banks on confiscation of their equipment because of agreements they entered with the banks to have expired without fulfilling their part.
He however, said his office has already communicated with the Works ministry requesting for immediate release of funds so that the work could proceed and save contractors from loosing their property.
