Caf Appoints Refs for Simba-Wydad Match

The African soccer controlling body, Caf, yesterday unveiled officials for the African Champions League playoff pitting Simba against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco.

The Simba-Wydad one-off showdown, which will decide who to sail through to the last eight, will be officiated by Egyptian referees.Simba, who advanced thanks to the disqualification of defending champions TP Mazembe for fielding an ineligible player, take on their superior opponents on Saturday in Cairo.

Briefing reporters yesterday, TFF information officer Boniface Wambura named the referees as: Farouk Mohamed who will be assisted by Mohamed Waleed and Hassan Sherif.

The fourth official of the encounter scheduled to start from 7pm (East African time) at the Petrosport is Omar Fahim while the match commissioner is Magdy Shams El Din of Sudan. The winner of the match will seal a Group B berth that comprises Al Ahly of Egypt, Esperance (Tunisia) and Moloudia Club d’Alger of Algeria.

The group stage will get underway in July and the final match will be played in November.

Group A comprises: Enyimba of Nigeria, El Hilal (Sudan), Raja Casablanca (Morocco) and Coton Sport of Cameroon.
