Konadu and Mills’ boys exchange blows in Tamale

The studio of Tamale-based Diamond FM was turned into a boxing ring on Tuesday May 17 2011, by two NDC bigwigs supporting President John Evans Atta Mills and arguably his strongest opponent for the NDC flagbearership, former first Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.

The clash occurred during the radio station’s live morning show programme hosted by Mohammed Ibn Abdallah, aka Governor of the Airwaves.

The two NDC members who flexed their muscles were Bukari Yahaya Alhassan, a member of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR), a group supporting the candidature of the former first lady’s bid to lead the NDC, and Adam Mohammed Amin Abio, NDC regional Youth Organizer who doubles as the regional National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) Coordinator.

Bukari Yahaya Alhassan was on the panel with others from the NPP contributing to discussions on Herbert Mensah’s invitation by the BNI and other matters that have come up in the increasingly fractious NDC contest, especially the rising tension between Konadu and Mills supporters nationwide.

Amongst other allegations, Bukari Yahaya in his submission stated that the regional (NYEP) Coordinator, Mohammed Adam Abio was demanding sexual favours before accepting applications for employment.

In a furious reaction, Mohammed Adam Abio, who was not a panelist but got offended by the latter’s submission, rushed into the studios and confronted Bukari, resulting in an exchange of blows.

Adam Abio also alleged that Bukari Yahaya acquired fake certificates and was therefore not qualified to cast any aspersions on anybody.

Host of the programme, Mohammed Ibn Abdallah condemned them for the indecent behaviour and apologized to listeners for the abrupt end of the show at 9 am.

Diamond FM has on countless occasions witnessed such indecent situations often caused by politicians in the Tamale metropolis.

The incident comes a day after the Ashanti Regional Coordinator of political support group, Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR), alleged that he was nearly attacked by supporters of President Mills during a discussion in the studios of Ash FM, a Kumasi-based radio station.
