Maiduguri — There was heavy exchange of fire between the military and unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram yesterday at Gwange ward of the Maiduguri metropolis.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the acting Army Public Relation Officer (PRO), 21 Armoured, Brigade Lieutenant Abdullahi Mohammed, said the patrol convoy was passing through Gwange ward, when the gunmen engaged them in fire exchange.
The PRO, however said, that he could not confirm whether there was any casualty, as the command is still carrying out investigations, adding that he would speak to the press at the end of the investigations.
He also disclosed that the command had made some arrests, and that those arrested would be interrogated to fish out the culprits. He appealed to the public to be patient with their method of operation, to avoid trampling on peoples right.
