Nzagi — A new hospital, called Eduardo do Carmo Nelumba, for 100 beds, was inaugurated Saturday in Nzagi mining town, district of Cambulo, north-eastern Lunda Norte province, by the Social Communication minister, Carolina Cerqueira.
Built in 36 months, the Akz 169.4 million hospital will provide services in the fields of paediatrics, maternity, general clinic, haemoterapy, surgery, pharmacy, clinic analysis and others.
In addition, the minister inaugurated the compound of seven houses for technicians who will work in the hospital and also delivered a 330 KVA generator. The hospital will be served by three physicians and 27 nurses.
On the occasion, Carolina Cerqueira said the hospital will contribute to improve medical assistance in the province.
Eduardo Nelumba after whom the hospital was named was an active militant of the national liberation struggle and one of the first physicians to work in Lunda Norte after the country’s independence.
The ceremony was witnessed by local governor, Ernesto Muangala, and representatives of the traditional power and churches.
