Luanda — The US ambassador to Angola, Christopher McMullen, said Thursday in Luanda that investing in education is creating a highly qualified manpower and ensuring a rapid development in any country.
Christopher McMullen was speaking at the inauguration of the English Language Training Centre of the Faculty of Arts of the State-run Agostinho Neto University (UAN).
He said on the occasion that the future of Angola depends much on the support extended to education of the new generation.
Alike in most of Africa, he said, Angola is a country with a young population and huge potential and needs the tools to attain its goals.
The ambassador recalled that the youths of today are the future doctors, engineers, teachers and professionals at large of tomorrow.
According to him, UAN as Angola’s oldest public university, has a special role to play in the whole process of training and development.
He mentioned his own experience as a public university teacher in his country to assert the importance of such institutions that provide to thousands of students the opportunity to train at accessible cost.
Christopher McMullen said that the firm that offered the centre, Paragon Angola, is also an important partner, adding that its strong support for education, particularly the teaching of English, shows the wish of international companies to equip the youths with relevant skills.
He also stated that investment in education results in highly qualified manpower and better opportunity for future generations.
According to him, the assistance of the embassy of his country to the teaching of English focuses on teachers whom he praised for their effort in helping the youths.
