Huambo — At least Akz 1.7 billion (Usd 1 is Akz 100) have been released by commercial banks from August 2010 to date for peasants in central Huambo province, as part of a Government’s programme of credit to agriculture, Angop learned Wednesday here.
The information was released by Huambo deputy governor, David Barbosa.
According to the official, the funds were released by the State-run banks Banco de Poupança e Credito (BPC), Banco de Comercio e Industria (BCI) and privately owned Banco Africano de Investimento (BAI) and Sol, and follows a direction Government to support agriculture in the country and help fight poverty.
David Barbosa who was speaking on the occasion of the 2nd phase of BCI credit to agriculture, adding the grant has benefitted 7,346 peasant families from 10 districts of the province.
