Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has been given a three-match ban from the Champions League by UEFA’s disciplinary committee in the wake of his elbow on Shakhtar Donetsk captain Darijo Srna.

The panel met to discuss allegations of inappropriate behaviour from the Italian during his team’s 3-0 loss in Ukraine during the Giallorossi’s second-leg, last 16 clash last week.

De Rossi elbowed Srna in an off-the-ball incident, which was missed by the match officials, and he was later alleged to have had a heated discussion with Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu.

Thus, the midfielder will miss Roma’s subsequent three games if they manage to qualify for the competition next season.

Vincenzo Montella’s men were eliminated by the Ukrainians, who were drawn against Barcelona in the quarter-final draw on Friday morning.
