Former General Manager of defunct Nsoatreman FC, Eric Alagedede, has sounded a stark warning about the future of the country’s traditional football clubs, cautioning that without urgent reforms, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko could lose their prominence in the coming decades.
“I am not going to be the prophet of doom but if we are not careful, clubs like Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko may not be relevant in the next 20 to 30 years,” he said in an interview with Sporty FM.
He highlighted the struggles of other historical teams, pointing out that, “I am being very honest. [Traditional clubs like] BA United is playing in Division Two, Bofoakwa Tano in Division Two, Hasaacas in Division Two.
“I have done a lot of work on traditional clubs,” he added.
Alagedede’s comments underline growing concerns over the management, financial stability, and competitiveness of Ghana’s storied football institutions, prompting calls for strategic interventions to safeguard their legacy.
