Sticking to its tradition of inviting top dignitaries to the finals of the yearly Government College Ughelli (GCU) Relays, the fifth edition is harvesting from riches of prominent and distinguished Nigerians, who have made their marks in different fields of endeavour.

The trio of Tonobok Okowa, Festus Ovie Agas and Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide will lead the array of prominent invitees heading to the hallowed ground of the GCU tartan tracks.

Okowa, who heads the Delta State Sports Commission, as well as the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), has in the past sent worthy representatives to the GCU Relays finals, including the Head coach, Athletics.

In the same vein, he has ensured that the modern timetronics, photo finish equipment remains a permanent fixture at the GCU Relays.

Expected Cto be chairman at tomorrow’s event is Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, a prominent Mariner, who, a couple of years ago, represented the erstwhile Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the event.

Before delving into politics, Agas was a GCU household name, derived from his lead role in the live theatre drama episode…“The Gods are not to Blame” by Ola Rotimi.

He has since occupied sensitive and developmental offices, as Acting Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly and lately, Chief of Staff to Governor Okowa. He is expected to bring to the GCU Relays, the teeming hordes of followership that he hugely commands.

Ancient Mariner, Sir Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide, with rich professional background in power building, engineering construction and aviation has dramatically altered the course of the fifth GCU Relays.

Whilst securing the sponsors for the GCU Relays, he has also ensured that the GCU athletics team will have the best of equipment and clothing, including, but not restricted to track suits, spike shoes and running shoes etc.

Completing the roll call of dignitaries expected at the GCU Relays are the chairmen of both Ughelli North and Ughelli South Local Councils, the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Agofure and the legendary ancient mariner, Chief Miller Uloho.

Of course, the schools President General Worldwide, Chief Albert Akpomudje, is chief host at the anniversary edition, which promises to surpass previous editions in competitiveness, glitz and glamour.

Primed to foster healthy rivalry amongst legacy schools, pan Nigeria, the GCU Relays is the brainchild of the GCUOBA Worldwide.
