The management of the National Stadium swimming pool has said it would strive to upgrade the facilities of the complex.  The aim according to Mr Charles Ogochukwu, is to keep the pool up to international standards and give Nigerian swimming enthusiasts a facility to practice their sports.

The pool management, which is under the umbrella of the O’jez Entertainment group, took over the Swimming complex in 2015 after signing an MOU with the Sports Ministry, under Solomon Dalong.

Since then the pool, which was moribund for almost 19 years, has been functioning and hosting national and international competitions. During the renovation, virtually all the components of the pool had to be replaced. These include pipes, the water supply and treatment, arena seats and offices.

“We are looking to upgrade some of the facilities to bring the swimming pool complex to international standards,” he stated.

“As of today, the pool is well maintained, and it has hosted several national and it international competitions. It has also served as a training base for national swimmers preparing for various competitions.

“The swimming pool is one of the functioning Olympics standard Stadium swimming in the country apart from the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, and perhaps the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Ogochukwu said.

During his inspection of the National Stadium Complex last Thursday, the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, commended the efforts of the O’jez Entertainment group for keeping the complex and surroundings well maintained.
