Tottenham Hotspur’s move for Pedro Porro from Sporting CP is still on despite the recent setback in the deal revealed on Monday morning.

What’s the latest?

Fabio Paratici appeared to be closing in on a move for the Spanish right wing-back ahead of Tuesday’s deadline but a fresh setback has been revealed.

It is believed Sporting have now changed some of the terms which had been agreed upon by the two clubs ahead of Porro’s scheduled medical.

The defender was penned in for a trip to London on Monday to undergo his medical with the Lilywhites ahead of the proposed move.

However, that medical has now been scrapped but speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared some optimism for Spurs fans:

“While I’m speaking in the morning, Tottenham are still trying to find the solution and to sign Pedro Porro. The player wants to move, the player is pushing. So conversations are still ongoing to get it signed.”

“But now it’s time for Sporting and Tottenham to discuss again to try to find a solution. Really complicated story but now Pedro Porro is still on, the deal is still on. So let’s see what’s gonna happen with Tottenham in the next hours.”

Deal still on

Monday morning could not have gotten off to a worse start for Spurs fans as they were awoken by David Ornstein’s report that the deal had hit a major snag.

And it is believed the issue was coming from Sporting’s side with the Portuguese side altering their stance on some of the finer details in the agreement.

However, it does appear the Lilywhites are still pushing to make this deal happen with the player said to be distraught after hearing the news.

Do you expect Spurs to salvage the Porro deal?

No

On Saturday, Porro seemingly bid farewell to the Sporting faithful after playing in their League Cup defeat against Porto which saw him wave as he left the pitch.

Fortunately for Spurs this has not happened on deadline day. Although they are not exactly blessed with time ahead of Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

But it appears the club are working on a potential resolution with the right wing-back spot believed to be their main area for improvement over the January window.

If they are to fail in finding an agreement with Sporting, you do have to wonder where Paratici goes from here in looking for a new right wing-back with just a matter of hours to play with.

And with the tension between the fans and the board at an all-time high, it does feel as if the pressure on Daniel Levy will hit a new level if Porro is not a Tottenham player come the end of Tuesday.
