Jose Aldo has revealed that UFC rival Conor McGregor left a pair of red panties on his door after one of his fights.
McGregor and Aldo were once bitter enemies and had a heated back and forth for months before their featherweight title clash. Aldo went on to lose his belt in just 13-seconds as McGregor put an end to his decade long unbeaten streak, also breaking the record for the quickest finish in a UFC title fight.
Over the past few years, the former rivals have become fond of each other and McGregor often praises Aldo’s career accomplishments on social media. The Brazilian, who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Saturday night, confirmed a rumour in which McGregor reportedly left a pair of red panties on his hotel room door after he beat Frankie Edgar in 2016.

“It was a bit of light hearted fun,” Aldo said. “I think we were in the Red Rock which is owned by Lorenzo [Fertitta] in Las Vegas. We were window-to-window and it was the night that I beat Frankie Edgar, he just sent it out as a light hearted joke. I didn’t do anything with it but maybe I could get my wife to wear it or something.”
McGregor became synonymous with his ‘red panty’ catchphrase after going back and forth with Rafael Dos Anjos at a UFC press conference. “I change your bum life. When you sign to fight me, it’s a celebration,” McGregor said in 2016. “You ring back home, you ring your wife, ‘Baby, we’ve done it. We’re rich, baby. Conor McGregor made us rich, break out the red panties. We’re rich, baby.”

Aldo went on to reclaim his featherweight title after losing it to McGregor and eventually moved down to bantamweight, a division in which he also fought for the title. The 36-year-old has now retired from MMA but is expected to make his boxing debut, with Aldo confirming he’s already signed a contract to step foot in the ring.
McGregor congratulated Aldo on being inducted into the Hall of Fame as he wrote on Twitter: “Earned!”. The Brazilian admitted he was taken back by his induction, stating: “I was flattered, I was not expecting it and I had no idea. I just brought it home because I was raised here, I was considered ‘King of Rio’ so I have nothing but gratitude to the UFC and all of the fighters who sent a message to me. I’m very flattered.”
