Why do the Jacksonville Jaguars always play in NFL London Games?

Over the years, the Jacksonville Jaguars have become a fixture in the NFL’s international game schedule. That has been the case since 2012 when Jaguars owner Shahid Khan signed a deal with the English Football Association to play in London for four consecutive seasons.

Due to the success of such games, Khan signed yet another partnership to continue playing in London through 2020. For that reason, the Jaguars always feature in NFL London Games. These London Games help increase the Jaguars’ global popularity, as the franchise is one of the youngest in the NFL.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have quite a relationship with London. It was even rumored that the team could move to London when their owner, Khan, attempted to purchase Wembley Stadium in 2018.

Khan eventually withdrew his offer for the stadium. The Jaguars-to-London rumor was squashed after Chris Halpin, the league’s chief strategy and growth officer, told Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer that the NFL was inching away from the idea of moving a franchise there.

How have the Jacksonville Jaguars performed this season?

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had a superb season so far, with the franchise completing one of the fastest and most successful rebuilds in recent memory.

The Jaguars, led by Trevor Lawrence, had a five-game winning streak to close the season, making the playoffs for the first time. They took a 9-8 record to the postseason, and stunned the entire NFL with their gritty yet effective performances.

The Jaguars faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers in their postseason matchup and came into the game as significant underdogs. They were even 27-0 down at a stage, before Lawrence led an improbable comeback.

The Jaguars won the game 31-30, thus advancing to the Divisional Round, where they come up against the Kansas City Chiefs.

How is Trevor Lawrence performing this season?

Trevor Lawrence was drafted first overall in a QB-stacked 2021 NFL Draft class. He was the consensus number-one pick, and that was never in doubt. However, Lawrence had a miserable debut season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, regularly coming in for criticism during the 2021 NFL season. However, the Clemson University legend stuck to his guns.

The 2022 NFL season was a marked departure from his ineffective rookie season, as the Jaguars shot caller regularly bailed out his side. He was at it in his last game against the Chargers, bouncing back remarkably.

Lawrence put up a great stat line for the 2022 NFL regular season. The sophomore QB had 4,113 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions for the season.
