Green Bay Packers told Aaron Rodgers is "holding them hostage" amid uncertain NFL future

Aaron Rodgers is yet to decide his future after the season came to an abrupt end for the Green Bay Packers, but once again Undisputed host Shannon Sharpe isn’t buying it.

The Packers lost to the Detroit Lions on the final day of the regular season to miss out on the playoffs, and speculation over Rodgers’ future spiked once again. Rodgers has since said he needs to “get away from it mentally” to ponder what he will do next.

But just one year into a huge three-year contract with the Packers, it’s unlikely he will retire just yet, and Sharpe is calling his bluff. Sharpe believes that Rodgers is even holding the Packers hostage, as his stance makes them even more desperate for him to stay.

“I told you he was going to do this,” Sharpe said when hearing Rodgers speak on the Pat McAffee Show. “He’s got two choices, either at Green Bay or to go somewhere else because he’s not retiring and leaving $60million on the table.

“It’s not like he’s got a plethora of choices, he has two. But I don’t care if that’s your last game in Green Bay, you were awful. He loves having the power over them, with them begging him to stay.

“Green Bay, stop letting this man hold you hostage.” The comments came after Rodgers appeared on the Tuesday edition of the show, and appeared undecided over his future.

“We had all the conversations we wanted to have about football for now,” Rodgers said. “They are not pressing for any specific type of answer and I am not mentally or emotionally at that point to give one.

“If I am asked about it, I will respond in honesty but this is not something where I am going to respond to a bunch of inquiries about ‘What are you thinking this week?’ or ‘What are you thinking next week?’

“It’s get away from it mentally and physically and emotionally as your body starts to come back after a few weeks of TLC and then you are in a better frame of mind to contemplate your future.”

Sharpe has pushed for the Packers to move on, as he’s certain that Rodgers is not doing the franchise any favours. It’s likely he will remain at Lambeau Field next season, but perhaps his mind will take him somewhere else this off-season.
