The UFC’s flyweight division features one of the best rivalries in company history. Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno are 1-1-1 against one another, dating back to 2020. In 2023, a tetralogy bout will look to settle who the best fighter is.

Figueiredo defends the UFC flyweight title against interim champion Moreno at UFC 283 on January 21. The fight takes place inside Jeunesse Arena in Figueiredo’s backyard in Brazil.

Figueiredo and Moreno first met at UFC 256 in 2020, with a back-and-forth classic ending in a majority draw. Figueiredo was deducted one point in the third round following a groin strike, but he retained the flyweight title. The rematch at UFC 263 saw Moreno submit Figueiredo to become the first UFC champion from Mexico.

At UFC 270, the two met again, with Figueiredo winning another back-and-forth affair via unanimous decision. Figueiredo needed to recover from injuries to his hand, which resulted in an interim title fight. Moreno beat Kai Kara-France at UFC 277 in July via TKO to become interim champion and secure the fourth fight.

Both fighters have gotten better with each fight. They have helped the other grow. Jason House, Moreno’s manager, believes the history of both men could be compared to one of the most legendary rivalries in boxing.

“This journey has been surreal, it’s been almost storybook,” House told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “I’m so excited for this fourth fight with Figueiredo. You need that dance partner. If you want to leave a legacy in this sport, you need that dance partner.

“People are like, ‘Oh, do you like Figueiredo?’ Like, dude, I Iove them. I hope they’re making a ton of money, I hope we’re making a ton of money, and I hope these guys continue to make magic in the cage because I think they needed each other for both of their legacies. [They’re the] Ali-Frazier of the flyweight division.”
