Oscar De La Hoya Gives Update On Gervonta Davis Vs. Ryan Garcia Negotiations

By Jack Tiernan: Oscar De La Hoya says he’s meeting with Ryan Garcia today at the Golden Boy headquarters, and he’s hoping that the contract from Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ management is there so they can sign it.

Oscar says he spoke with Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs), and they’re just waiting on the contract to be sent to them. De La Hoya states that they’ve agreed to all the deal points.

Interestingly De La Hoya has backed off from the tough talk from him that he made last Saturday night in which he set a deadline for the contract to be sent to Golden Boy by Monday.

Whether it’s the conversation that De La Hoya had with Ryan or something that resulted in him backing down from his demand for the contract to be sent by Monday is unknown.

What is clear is that De La Hoya is now hoping the contract is sent today. If he doesn’t receive it, one gets the impression that De La Hoya will continue to wait impatiently rather than go through with his threat to walk away from the Tank Davis.

After all, Ryan has been pushing hard for the Gervonta fight for two years, and that’s all he’s talked about at times. With Ryan’s neediness for the Tank fight, which borders on desperation, he’s not about to let De La Hoya mess things up for him to get this cash-out.

“The terms have been agreed upon; everything is agreed upon. The venue, money, everything,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV about the Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis negotiations.

“All we need is to put it on the long form. That’s it. I’m hoping that we get this signed today because there’s no signed deal whatsoever.

“Ryan and I should have a contract by then so we can get this show on the road,” said De La Hoya.

It would be very surprising if De La Hoya receives the contract for the Tank fight today, tomorrow, or next week. Tank’s management will take their time with the contract, and when they’re ready to send it, they will.

As needy as Ryan is, he’ll likely be willing to wait until the night of the fight to get the contrast just so that he has the opportunity for the big cash out against Tank.

The alternatives are poor for Ryan because he’ll make less money fighting the top lions at 135 & 140, like Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, and Regis Prograis, and lose just the same as he would if by fighting Gervonta.
