Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has informed the team he is excited to return next season, amid speculation he could walk away from his position.
The youngest coach to ever win the Super Bowl was brought back down to reality this season as key injuries saw them slip to 5-12 as they surrendered their title in brutal fashion. McVay has been linked with a move away from the Rams ever since winning the Super Bowl, and as the year progressed it looked like he could follow through with it.
McVay has been subject to reported proposals from TV companies, and Amazon even approached the Rams coach with a huge contract offer. But while that still may be on the cards in the future, for now he will remain at SoFi Stadium.
McVay is ready to go again with the Rams after confirming he will remain with the franchise, and he will be hoping for an injury free season next time around. With Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp out for most of the season, the Rams were brutally wounded in offense.
The Rams coach is very well respected, and has his name in the history books as the youngest ever to win the Super Bowl. But he has been tempted with lucrative roles elsewhere, including Amazon.
The 36-year-old coach was approached by Amazon this past off-season, who offered him a huge deal to join their broadcasting and commentary team. Months ago, The Athletic had spoke to executives around the NFL on McVay’s future who thought he could leave this year.
That isn’t the case, but it was being reported that he was offered a huge five-year deal worth $100million (£83.6m) to join Amazon’s Thursday Night Football team, according to the New York Post. The report stated that McVay was set to meet with Amazon bosses, but decided against it.
McVay broke his silence about the offer, as he told The Athletic: “I haven’t run away from the fact that, down the line or, you know, whenever that is, that’s something I’ve been interested in. But, I want to be here right now, focus on that, and that’s where I’m at.”
One executive thinks that Amazon will eventually get their man, and that his snub could lead to an irresistible offer. “I think he goes to Amazon for a bajillion dollars because they wanted him before,” an exec said to the Athletic. “It will bring something sexy.”
