World No 11 Paula Badosa has announced she is withdrawing from the Australian Open due to an abductor injury. Badosa, 25, competed at this week’s Adelaide International 2. In a tight Adelaide quarterfinal win over Beatriz Haddad Maia, Badosa suffered an abductor injury.

After withdrawing from her Adelaide semifinal match, Badosa was also forced to announce her Australian Open withdrawal. Not only that Badosa will miss the Australian Open, she has indicated that she will be sidelined for least a few weeks.

“Hi everyone, bad news. During the quarterfinal match in Adelaide, I hurt myself and after receiving the results I will have to be out a few weeks. Sad to miss Australian Open this year, really going to miss it. I will do everything I can to return as soon as possible,” Badosa said in a message posted on her social media.

Australian tennis star Tomljanovic is also missing the Australian Open.

In her message on social media, Tomljanovic said she did all she could to be fit for the Australian Open but it just wasn’t meant. “It absolutely pains me to have to write this message but unfortunately I won’t be able to compete at this year’s Australian Open.

I’ve done absolutely everything in my power to get healthy but just ran out of time to heal and be 100 per cent ready to compete at a high level. It’s been a very tough decision to make but I have to listen to my body,” Tomljanovic announced.

For Badosa and Tomljanovic, it must be devastating to miss the Australian Open. Badosa started her 2023 season on fire as she won her lone United Cup match and also won her first three Adelaide matches. Just when Badosa started catching fire and gaining momentum, an injury is forcing her to be sidelined.
