Nick Kyrgios revealed there was a time when he felt his life was spiraling out of control and there was a moment when he realized that he needed to figure out a way to quit his alcohol abuse. Kyrgios, 27, was struggling with all the expectations and pressure at the start of his career.

During one dark period, Kyrgios turned to self-harm and alcohol abuse. On Netflix’s Break Point, Kyrgios opened up about his past battles with mental health issues. “The first four, five years of my career, it was just chaotic.

When Horse was on tour with me, when he was basically looking after me. He could see my mental well-being declining every week. My life was kind of spiraling out of control, drinking every single night,” Kyrgios opened up in Break Point, per tennis.com.

On the episode, Kyrgios’ manager Daniel Horsfall revealed that there were mornings when he had to go out on his own and search for the Australian. “I used to have your location on my phone, and on some mornings, I’d have to physically go and find where you were, what hotel you were at, whose house you were staying at, before tournaments and before a match,” Horsfall added.

Kyrgios: I realized I needed to quit that life

“I was like, ‘I can’t keep doing this.’ I just had to be kinder to myself. For my mental health, I could never be a player that played all year round.

I couldn’t do it,” Kyrgios added. Now, Kyrgios is in a much better place. In late 2021, Kyrgios started dating Costeen Hatzi. Throughout the entire 2022 season, Hatzi was accompanying Kyrgios in tournaments. As a result, Kyrgios enjoyed the season of his life last season.

In one of his recent interviews, Kyrgios acknowledged that Hatzi’s presence played a major part in his 2022 success. Kyrgios is now living a happy life and enjoying his best tennis days.
