Liverpool transfer round-up: Fulham star considered amid Sofyan Amrabat decision

Liverpool acted quickly in January to secure the signing of Cody Gakpo – which could be their only deal this month.

The Reds managed to capture the PSV star, who had been heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United. It bolsters an already well-stocked forward line, albeit they have suffered injury setbacks to major players.

A new midfielder is very much on the club’s wish list after the Reds opted against spending big on one in the summer. That move has come back to bite them with the blame for their inconsistent season being pointed at their ageing midfield options, who are struggling to implement Jurgen Klopp’s game plan like they once did.

Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer rumours currently coming out of Anfield.

Reds to push for Fulham star

Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to battle it out for Fulham star Joao Palhinha, but any move isn’t likely to occur until the summer, according to the Daily Express.

The Portuguese midfielder only joined Fulham in the summer from Sporting Lisbon, but his displays for the over-performing outfit have put him very much on the map.

Two of the Premier League heavyweights are now keen on Palhinha, who does have a contract at Craven Cottage until 2027, which gives them an advantage is negotiations as they look to secure top dollar for their asset.

World Cup standout opts for Atletico

Sofyan Amrabat is ready to snub Liverpool and make the move to Atletico Madrid, as per reports. The Fiorentina star was a major figure for Morocco as they made the last four of the World Cup, seeing off Spain and Portugal en route.

Liverpool, who are in the market for new midfielders, had been linked with Amrabat. Foot Mercato claimed that Jurgen Klopp met with his representatives last year, but it looks as if he’s now opted for a switch to Spain.

Amrabat could make the switch to Atletico later this month, which would leave the Reds still seeking midfield recruits. The likes of Fabinho, James Milner and Jordan Henderson are all approaching, or are already into their 30s with Jude Bellingham seen as their prime target.

Clarkson’s future plan

Leighton Clarkson has underlined his commitment to Aberdeen amid links with several Championship sides. The teenage midfielder has seen his stock rise north of the border and could see his loan cut short, which would free him up for another move.

Clarkson has made it known that he wants to continue picking up minutes, though, and has enjoyed his time at Pittodrie. “I don’t think about what’s going to happen in the future really”, he told the Liverpool Echo.“I just want to do my best for Aberdeen now. I’m getting that experience and playing men’s football.

“I just want to do as well as I can and see where that takes me. I’m really enjoying it. I’ve come to gain the experience I feel I needed at this club and in the Scottish league. I’m doing that so far, I’m enjoying my football. I want to keep going and try and win a trophy or help us win third place.”
