Real Salt Lake have completed the club-record transfer of 20-year-old winger Carlos Andres Gomez from Colombian side Millonarios FC.

Gomez arrives via Major League Soccer’s U22 Initiative, signing a five-year deal through the 2027 MLS season with a player option for 2028. The transfer fee paid by RSL is believed to be in the $4m region.

“This is an exciting day for our club as we bolster a strong returning core with a dynamic attacking addition in Carlos Andres Gómez,” RSL general manager Elliot Fall said in a club press release.

“Andres is a player that quickly rose to the top of our target list over the last several months and we are very pleased to be able to finalize his acquisition.

“His athleticism and creativity will be a welcome addition to our stable of attacking players. We look forward to getting him to the Wasatch Front shortly and integrating him to our group as we pursue hardware across multiple fronts in 2023.”

Gomez made his professional debut in November 2021 and since then, has made 57 appearances for Millonarios across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists.

The youngster is yet to get the call at any level from the Colombian national team though, if he continues his current form in MLS, it won’t be long until that changes.

RSL are preparing for their 2023 season opener away at the Vancouver Whitecaps on February 25, where they’ll look to begin their journey back to the MLS Cup Playoffs after missing out in 2022.
