Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is NOT the issue at Chelsea, pundit insists as exit talk ramps up

The 33-year-old has only scored one Premier League goal for the Blues since a summer move from Barcelona and the Catalans are reportedly interested in re-signing him this month.

After Chelsea signed Joao Felix, Standard Sport reported on Atletico Madrid’s interest in bringing Aubameyang back to LaLiga – although he cannot play for more than two clubs this season having already featured at the Camp Nou and Stamford Bridge.

Ex-midfielder Murphy accepts that there could be “attitude” issues with the Gabonese striker but has asserted that he still has the ability to score goals, such as for a Manchester City team that would take advantage of his skillset.

He told talkSPORT: “People say, ‘Chelsea need a No9, they need a goalscorer’.

“Aubameyang has been a one-in-two goalscorer for his whole career and he’s done it in the Premier League. If you get the right service to him and play more progressive football than Chelsea do, he’ll score goals. I’ve got no doubt about it.

“I can only go by what I see on the pitch, and the last few times I’ve seen him, he’s forever making runs and not getting the ball.

“The home game against Man City, run it back. Watch how many times he runs in behind and doesn’t get the ball.

“Put him in the City side and he would score a bagful, because they have players who look up and pass the ball forwards.”
