John McEnroe draws similarity between Iga Swiatek, Novak Djokovic

John McEnroe says Iga Swiatek’s movement reminds him of Novak Djokovic as he is almost certain that the Pole will enjoy more Grand Slam success before she retires. Swiatek, 21, became a Grand Slam champion after winning the 2020 French Open title.

Last year, Swiatek captured her second French Open title before winning her third Grand Slam at the US Open. Swiatek is young, already a three-time Grand Slam champion, and also considered the best and most dominant player in the game.

Many believe that Swiatek could easily win over 10 Grand Slams and McEnroe seemingly agrees with that claim.

McEnroe tips Swiatek for more Grand Slam success

“I think right now she’s by far and away the best player, she’s a fantastic athlete, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a young woman get slide into the corners, it reminds me of Novak quite a bit.

So I would be surprised if she didn’t win a couple more French Opens at least, and she’s learned to play on hard courts so there’s no question that she’s the favourite in every tournament she plays.

She’s got to be careful with her schedule, I don’t think she’ll go on 37-match winning streaks as much because now obviously people are going to be gunning for her more, but I’ll be very surprised if she doesn’t win a bunch more majors,” McEnroe told Eurosport’s Reem Abulleil.

Meanwhile, Swiatek will be hoping to win her fourth Grand Slam title at the upcoming Australian Open. Last year, Swiatek made her first Australian Open semifinal before losing to Danielle Collins. 12 months ago, Swiatek wasn’t considered the No 1 favorite for the title.

But this year, Swiatek is the No 1 favorite for the Australian Open title. Swiatek pulled out of this week’s Adelaide International 2 due to a shoulder injury but it is not considered something serious or too concerning ahead of the Australian Open.
