World No 2 Ons Jabeur was “really heartbroken” after the Wimbledon final defeat but crying helped her get all those emotions out. Jabeur, 28, made her first Grand Slam final during last year’s Wimbledon. In the Wimbledon final, Jabeur was up by a set before Elena Rybakina stormed back to beat the Tunisian 3-6 6-2 6-2.
For Jabeur, it was hard to digest that she was a set away from winning her first Grand Slam title at the most prestigious tournament and then not making it. Two months later, Jabeur made her second Grand Slam final at the US Open – this time she suffered a straight-set defeat to Iga Swiatek.

“The Wimbledon final was the worst of the two because it is a tournament that I love so much. I was really heartbroken afterwards, but I knew that I did everything in my power to win this final.
I don’t keep things inside. I cried a little bit and that helped to get the emotions out. It didn’t happen but you just have to move on. I always try to be a positive person. It just wasn’t meant to be that day, or at the US Open, but I feel like my time will come very soon.
I am still extremely proud and grateful that I had this season. Tennis is my world; the tennis court is a place where I feel free. It’s just something that I’m very blessed to have in my life; it’s great to do what you love, and I truly love tennis,” Jabeur told Vogue Arabia.
Meanwhile, Jabeur is starting her 2023 season at this week’s Adelaide International. Jabeur, who is the top-seeded player in Adelaide, had a first-round bye at the tournament as she plays Sorana Cirstea in the round-of-16.
After Adelaide, Jabeur will try to lift her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. Jabeur achieved her best Australian Open result in 2020, when she made the quarterfinal.
