Casper Ruud has been announced as the winner of the 2022 Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award. For the first time since 2003, someone other than Roger Federer (13) or Rafael Nadal (5) has won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.

Ruud, who reached his first two Grand Slam finals this year, is known as a very fair player. He is now recognized for his fair play and his extraordinary sportsmanship. “Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me for this year’s ATP Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.

I feel very, very honored and happy to win this award this year. I’ll try to keep my mood in the right place for next year. I can’t wait to get back on track,” Ruud told the ATP website. World number 3 Ruud will represent Norway in the inaugural United Cup.

After the United Cup, Ruud will fly to New Zealand for the ASB Classic. In a recent interview, Auckland tournament director Nicolas Lamperin said the tournament and Ruud quickly reached an agreement. “One of the easiest was Casper Ruud.

You might think it would have been harder because of his ranking, but he’s the kind of guy who likes to play a lot of ATP 250 tournaments and doesn’t mind playing the week before a grand slam. I guess with Emma Raducanu it was more difficult.

We wanted to wait and see what happened after the US Open. There was interest on both sides, she also wanted to know what was happening with the United States Cup, so it took us longer to reach an agreement.

Federer gave a shoutout to Pete Sampras

Roger Federer had a fun and illuminating chat on the late-night talk show The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Wednesday.

“When I was growing up, I had Michael Schumacher that I would look up to, who was at the top for so long. Tiger Woods, same thing. And I always thought it’s impossible to do that, to stay at the top for so long and have that drive,” he stated.

“Now people ask me, how did you do it? I’m like that’s normal. You just go out there, you do it again and you try to win again. And it’s fun, so you keep doing it. Everybody else would like to be in your shoes, right?” he remarked.

“And then you also have a duty, in my mind, to represent the sport well and enjoy it while it lasts. And I really felt like I squeezed out that lemon till the last drop. And I tried my very best to the end. And It was incredible and I needed the likes of Pete Sampras to show me how it is at the top,” he added.
