Coach Michael Russell felt Taylor Fritz’s 2022 season was a success as the Fritz team is now looking forward to a hopefully even more successful 2023 season. Fritz, 25, captured his first Masters title in 2022, debuted at the ATP Finals, and also broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career.
Fritz, who is finishing the season ranked at No 9 in the world, also made his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at this year’s Wimbledon. In his ATP Finals debut, Fritz made the semifinal before falling short to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in two tight sets.

Coach Russell happy with Fritz’s 2022 season
In the group stage of the ATP Finals, Fritz went 2-1 as he defeated Rafael Nadal and Felix Auger-Aliassime, while he lost to Casper Ruud.
In the semifinal, Fritz fought well but Djokovic escaped with a 7-6 (5) 7-6 (6) win. Even though Fritz didn’t win the ATP Finals, he was glad with the level he showed in Turin. “I absolutely feel like I belong. I think that I’ve proved that I belong in the top 10 and I belong here.
I just need to keep working hard. Fortunately for me, I think there’s a lot of positives to take out of this year where I finished. I finished where I did and I missed pretty much the whole clay court season, didn’t have any training going into the beginning of the hard court season.
I was dealing with injuries, and I still was able to produce a really solid year. I’m just excited to kind of get back to work, keep improving, next year look to cement my spot even more,” Fritz said. Fritz’s 2022 season still isn’t over as he is now hoping to lead the United States to triumph at the Davis Cup Finals.
