Gervonta Davis: “I’m Going To Grab It”

By Sam Volz: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is hinting on social media that he wants to get back in action with his next fight.

As usual, Tank, 28, posted a cryptic message on Twitter, saying, “as soon as I see it, I’m going to grab it.”

We’re assuming that Tank is discussing fighting the social media star Ryan Garcia, but it’s unclear whether that fight can happen due to network issues.

Ryan is with DAZN, and it doesn’t appear they will allow him to fight on SHOWTIME without their involvement. If not, the Tank-Ryan fight won’t happen.

With Ryan Garcia’s 9M followers on Instagram and `1.26M on YouTube, he’s capable of bringing in a lot of casuals to watch him fight Tank Davis.

Above all, Tank can’t afford to get dragged down in neverending negotiations for a fight against Ryan because he’s missing out on some quality fights that could be set up by PBC and Mayweather Promotions against these top guys:

  • Devin Haney
  • Vasyl Lomachenko
  • Shakur Stevenson
  • Michel Rivera
  • Frank Martin
  • William Zepeda
  • Jamaine Ortiz

Gervonta needs to get in action because he’s been missing out on facing championship-level fights. He is seemingly content with battling second-rate opposition that can’t take his career to the next level.

Interestingly, Tank’s promoter Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn’t put him in with the type of opposition that would turn him into a star. Floyd fought the best during his career, but he hasn’t been in a hurry to match Tank against the best for some reason.

Ideally, Tank should look to fight for the undisputed 135-lb championship against Haney (29-0, 15 KOs), but that’s probably never going to happen because the two fighting on different networks.

Haney will probably move up to 140 after he defends his four belts against Vasyl Lomachenko, and Tank will have missed the boat to increase his popularity.

Tank is coming off a sixth round knockout of fellow Mayweather Promotions fighter Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero last May.

Like Ryan Garcia, Rolly had never fought anyone during his career to prove himself worthy of a title shot against Tank Davis.

In the same way that Ryan has become popular, Rolly capitalized on social media to talk his way into a title shot without earning it the hard way by beating top contenders.
