Jelena Ostapenko needed two hours and 35 minutes and three sets to get past Anastasia Gasanova in their second-round clash. The Latvian, who’s the top seed this week, won 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Ostapenko won 64% of her first-serve points to Gasanova’s 58%.
Ostapenko faced 14 break points of which she saved eight. Gasanova faced 15 break points and she, too, saved eight of these. For the match, Ostapenko won 118 points while Gasanova won 111 points. Next up for Ostapenko will be Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva who came through to the quarters on Wednesday.
Hana Bank Open: Emma Raducanu, Magda Linette claim victories
Magda Linette, the third seed this week also advanced to the quarter-finals. The Pole came from a set down to vanquish France’s Kristina Mladenovic, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 in two hours and 46 minutes.
Both players faced 10 break points each but where Linette saved six break points, Mladenovic saved five. Linette won 106 points to Mladenovic’s 97. Linette will play Emma Raducanu next. The Briton, the sixth seed in the South Korean capital.
The 2021 US Open winner won against Yanina Wickmayer in their round-of-16 match-up, 6-3, 7-5 in an hour and 40 minutes. Wickmayer was able to win only 20% of her second-serve points while Raducanu won 55%. In terms of first-serve points won, the Belgian won 66% of her first-serve points while Raducanu won 62%.
Raducanu did lose her serve twice in the match but broke Wickmayer five times of the eight that came her way. Swiss Lulu Sun also took her place in the quarters after beating Anna Blinkova 6-4, 7-6(6) in an hour and 50 minutes.
Sun, who qualified for the main draw, saved eight of the 10 break points she faced while converting three of the seven break points she had on Blinkova’s serve. Sun will play Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarters of the Hana Bank Open next, who’d previously won her second-round match.
