Emma Raducanu acknowledged that Queen Elizabeth II did a lot of good for British people and she feels her nation will be mourning the death of the Queen for “quite some time.” Last Thursday, the Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen passed away at the age of 96.

Raducanu, 19, praised the Queen for how she led Great Britain and admitted that she was stunned after hearing the news of the Queen death. “Honestly, it’s very sad. When I heard the news, I couldn’t believe it, because she was a solid pillar and compass for me, as indeed for all British people.

Everything around was changing, but she remained a constant. She led our country and indeed the world in a very strong way. Britain will be mourning for quite some time,” Raducanu told Teniski Svet.

The Queen congratulated Raducanu on winning the US Open

12 months ago, Raducanu wrote tennis history when she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam.

After winning the US Open, Raducanu received many congratulatory messages. But the one congratulatory message that stood out was the one sent by Queen Elizabeth II. “I send my congratulations to you on your success in winning the United States Open Tennis Championships,” the Queen said in her message to Raducanu.

“It is a remarkable achievement at such a young age, and is testament to your hard work and dedication. I have no doubt your outstanding performance, and that of your opponent Leylah Fernandez, will inspire the next generation of tennis players.

I send my warmest good wishes to you and your many supporters.” Meanwhile, Raducanu competed in Portoroz this week. Raducanu was hoping to potentially win her first title this week, but her run ended in the round-of-16 following a surprise defeat to Anna-Lena Friedsam. However, it should be noted that Raducanu required an intervention and that her left thigh was heavily strapped.
