Coach Patrick Mouratoglou says Carlos Alcaraz’s mental strength is already incredible and added that the 19-year-old’s physical abilities are also a very impressive part of his game. Alcaraz has made a stunning rise in 2022 as this season alone he has won a Grand Slam, two Masters titles, and is now the youngest No.

1 in tennis history. In a video uploaded on his Instagram, Mouratoglou explained what helped Alcaraz win the US Open. “The first one that is most impressive in his mental strength, that is incredible. All this expectations on his shoulders, the number one ranking, the first Grand Slam, having to save match points, being completely exhausted physically and is able to deliver in these conditions,” Mouratoglou said in a video uploaded on his Instagram.

“The second is his physical abilities. The intensity combined with explosiveness, the way he hits the ball with so much violence with every single shot. And number three is how complete his game is. No weaknesses, great from far behind the baseline, great from close to the baseline, 30% of his shot that he hits are inside the baseline, great at net.

To develop all this at 19 years of age is unbelievable.”

Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud for his first Grand Slam

On Sunday, Alcaraz overcame Ruud in the US Open final with a 6-4 2-6 7-6 (1) 6-3 score.

Alcaraz was playing his first Grand Slam final, while Ruud was making his second Grand Slam final appearance. After losing to Rafael Nadal earlier this year in the French Open final, Ruud once again lost a Grand Slam final to a Spaniard.

In his post-final press conference, Ruud jokingly expressed desire to avoid meeting a Spaniard in case he ever again made a Grand Slam final. Had Ruud defeated Alcaraz in the US Open final, he would have been the top-ranked player instead of the 19-year-old Spaniard.
