Simona Halep has confirmed that she is divorcing from her billionaire husband Toni Iuruc. This week, Romanian media reported that Halep and Iuruc were getting divorced after just less than a year of being married. On September 15, 2021, Halep and Iuruc tied the knot.

Just ahead of their one-year anniversary, the two decided to go their separate ways. On Thursday, Halep took to Instagram, where she confirmed that she is divorcing from Iuruc, and requested from the media to respect her privacy.

“Toni and I decided by mutual consent to go our separate ways. I would like the press to respect our privacy and treat this subject with decency and discretion,” Halep wrote on Instagram Story.

Iuruc also confirmed the split from Halep

“We decided together with Simona to break up,” Iuruc said.

“Stop insisting, it’s my last public appearance. The rest will be handled by the lawyers in the most civilized way possible. Thank you for understanding”. Halep last played at the US Open, where she shockingly lost to Ukrainian qualifier Daria Snigur in the first round.

After winning the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, Halep was considered among top favorites for the US Open title. But her run at Flushing Meadows was short-lived after Snigur shockingly defeated her with a 6-2 0-6 6-4 score. After Halep’s exit, coach Patrick Mouratoglou admitted that it was “a big disappointment” to lose so early in New York.

“Unfortunately it is the end of our US season. It ended with a big disappointment right after a great result with the title in Toronto,” Mouratoglou wrote on Instagram. “Whatever happens, good or bad, what always counts the most is the trust in the process, and the deep feeling of doing the right things to get where we want to be. Time to prepare for the next challenges.”
