US Open—Flushing Meadows, New York
Wednesday’s action at the US Open featured No. 6 seed Aryna Sabalenka ousting No. 22 seed Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 7-6(4) to reach the semifinals of the year’s final Major.
Needing one and 22 to prevail, Sabalenka hit seven aces, won 72 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.
Improving to 3-2 in lifetime meetings versus Pliskova, Sabalenka will next face either No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek or No. 8 seed Jessica Pegula for a place in the finals.
On the men’s side, today’s quarterfinal matches will feature home-country favourite Frances Tiafoe taking on No. 22 seed Andrey Rublev and the night cap on Ashe Stadium will see No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz facing No. 11 seed Jannik Sinner.
Thursday’s action at Flushing Meadows will be highlighted by the women’s semifinals.
