No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz was delighted with the performance he delivered versus Jenson Brooksby in the US Open third round. On Saturday, Alcaraz saw off home favorite Brooksby 6-3 6-3 6-3 to reach the US Open round-of-16. “I played really, really well,” Alcaraz said after the win, per the ATP website.

“High level, high intensity, I knew that it was going to be a tough match. Brooksby is a really tough opponent, but I’m really happy with my performance today and I’m going to keep going”.

Alcaraz managed to close out the match in three sets

Alcaraz claimed the first break of the match in the sixth game and then held on to his serve the rest of the first set to win the opener.

In the second set, Alcaraz lost his serve once, but broke Brooksby three times to open a two-set lead. After losing the first two sets, Brooksby started the third set with back-to-back breaks and a 3-0 lead. Alcaraz responded in impressive style as he claimed three consecutive breaks and won six games in a row to complete a straight-set win.

“I knew that I was going to have my chances in the third set, and I knew that he was going to [lose] his level a little bit and I had to make my opportunity in the third set,” said Alcaraz. “In the tough moments, in the break points, I played really, really well.

I enjoyed it. I was there all the time and I made my opportunities in the third set”. Meanwhile, ninth-ranked Cameron Norrie also enjoyed a good day at the office. In the US Open third round, Norrie saw off Holger Rune 7-5 6-4 6-1.

Norrie realized 7-of-18 of his break points, while Rune converted 2-of-8 of his break point chances. “Holger is not easy. He can go through patches where he is playing pretty passively and then he hits aggressively, so you have to be ready for anything,” Norrie said.

“He has great hands and defends really well at times. I think I stayed a lot calmer than he did throughout the big moments in the match. Alcaraz plays next either Marin Cilic or Dan Evans, while Norrie meets Andrey Rublev in the last-16.
