Serena Williams announced the death of her 18 years old dog Lauerlei in an Instagram post on Saturday. The American tennis icon pointed out that the dog’s death marks the end of her career. “Lauerlei sadly took her last breath yesterday.

I am sad but happy for all the time and all the extra I got to spend with her. She lived a long long life. The last year and a half was a bonus. She got to get anything she ever wanted and she was biting toes till the end. Literally.

She LOVED chicken and acrobatics. She was the smallest yet toughest little pup and I will miss her… so much. Truly the end of an Era. Lauerlei Linkogle Williams. May 2004 – Aug 27, 2022,” wrote Serena Williams on Instagram.

Serena Williams still has dogs

Although Lauerlei sadly left us, she didn’t leave Serena alone pet-wise.

The tennis icon still has Christopher Rafael Nadal. Last week, Serena Williams scooped her small dog called Christopher Chip Rafael Nadal and put him into a bag to make sure he is safe and doesn’t do anything bad while she was practicing with Maria Sakkari.

The US Open official social media team captured the moment and shared it. See it in this article: Serena Williams clears Arthur Ashe of Rafael Nadal dog ahead of practice Christopher Chip Rafael Nadal is a Yorkshire Terrier brought home by Serena in 2017.

Chip has a pretty large social media following. Serena’s dog is followed by over 13.000 people on Instagram. During a Wimbledon press conference, Serena Williams praised Rafael Nadal and pointed out she named her dog after him.

“He’s done a lot in 2022. He’s been busy. I’ve always been a Rafa fan. I named my dog after him. He’s so cute. I miss the little guy. So obviously I’m always rooting for Rafa. So yes, he’s been really inspiring in everything that he’s done this year, and he has a lot more to do,” said Williams.
